POEM TO DR PAUL KATZ, (ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR) PSYCHIATRIST

JE SUIS GARTH

POEM FOR DR KATZ
Electro Convulsive Therapy

Swinging so high on a gossamer thread,
Not looking down, you’re denying the height,
The cavalry’s coming, our dear doctor Katz,
To teach you a lesson you’ll never forget,

The evil you pedal is coming to grief,
Now banned in three countries,
Then Ireland is next,
You can’t take a trick sir; the jig’s nearly up,

Spinning the myth that the treatment is, ‘safe,’
You go with the plan, to dupe those who trust,
Hold up in your office and cloistered away,
It must be quite lonely, just being Paul Katz,

The lawyers are coming, with caches of books,
Waiting to test the theories you flaunt,
The high tide is rising, with no land in sight,
I think you should swim, your career’s taking flight,

Peddler of poison, no you don’t give a toss,
Crush and destroy the ones you select,
The families are grieving, you snort at their loss,
Weak and defenseless, you laugh at their plight?

The lies that you offer, and trauma you cause,
You’re statement of ‘treatment,’ is nothing but ruse,
Pedaling terror to those far and wide,
Snared in your net, for the law’s on your side,

You think we don’t know, or others like us,
People of goodness and people of trust,
Working with stealth, there’s right on our side,
Will dig you up slowly; then bury you fast.

The one thing that heartens the people of light,
The dark arts you offer will sink in the mud,
You see Dr Katz, you are known far and wide,
Garth Daniels for once; can stand tall with pride.

LETTER TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DR PAUL KATZ PSYCHIATRIST and COPY TO MILITARY VETERANS

JE SUIS GARTH

20/4/2016
Letter to Dr Paul Katz,

Assoc. Professor,
Upton House, Box Hill Hospital,
Mental Health,

Dear Doctor Katz (And Veterans)

This is serious and chilling stuff. This brain shock treatment is in my opinion evil when misused, but I'll let others to their opinion. It's going on now and a very disturbing trend.
Dr Paul Katz, a senior psychiatry researcher at Box Hill Hospital is benefiting from State and drug company funding for research, along with many others at Upton House.

The location of research institution I write about is at Upton House, part of Box Hill Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

Electric Shock treatment (E.C.T.) Research is in the redevelopment stages being planned to be: There are also plans to target children with electric shocks to their brain.

Note to Veterans and the serving.
E.C.T. has to be packaged carefully to look harmless and seamless and safe. …But it’s not, and never has been. Please don't let this E.C.T. treatment leak into the veteran community without careful scrutiny and research by veterans, with suicides now at epidemic levels.

E.C.T. makes the neurologists (specialists in the brain) of the world cringe. But they are not being asked by psychiatry for their opinion. The brain is their specialty but psychiatrists have bumped them out of the way. When the shocks are delivered to a patient's brain, you will not find a neurologist anywhere in sight to monitor for brain damage.

Do you know how complex the brain is Dr Katz? ....Only two percent of the brain is roughly understood by highly specialized scientists.

If mainstream neurologists can't endorse E.C.T.....and most of the independents cringe over your ideas; seeing it as damaging to the brain, why should anyone take your ideas seriously Dr Katz.?

Garth is on a Community Treating Order requiring forced treatment, at your mercy, where there is none. Independent psychiatrists say you are wrong Dr Katz. You, in your superior position have the power over Garth's life and death and the emotional welfare of Garth and his parents. While Garth is stripped of his human rights, you Dr Katz, are stripped of your dignity.

The accepted number of E.C.T. treatments is twelve, then a break to see if it worked. Then a maximum of to another eight brain electric shocks is the usual limit. For Garth's brain, you approved over ninety electric shocks with no end in sight. There is a research project funded in Eastern Health to discover how many electric shocks to the brain are necessary to effectively deal with depression. Is this it?

It's like shooting fish in a barrel, with Garth tied hand and foot to his bed for over sixty days, frustrated and under assault by staff who manhandle him to get him to comply with your orders.

Then when he emotionally breaks and pushes them away, you charge Garth with assault.

You want to totally separate Garth from his family by taking away the father's power of attorney. Do you understand the meaning of the word...heartless?

In history, remember how dancing bears lived under similar conditions to Garth, and with a ring through the nose and tied to a pole to contain them, while forced to dance to the commands of a handler. They too are restricted, tortured and if they didn't perform, or fight back from the whims of the handler, they are killed. ....You are the handler, Dr Katz, and Garth is the bear.

You are the Grande puppeteer of Eastern Health, Box Hill Hospital, Victoria.  Dr Katz I estimate you have lost your moral compass.

I guess from the electric shocks to Garth's brain, and the ups and downs from drugs that confuse him senseless, you may have sped up the experiments to beat the growing opposition. It shows. Oh the potential shame of losing a doctorate and remaining ....a mere Associate Professor who never gets to wear that floppy university hat in your lifetime.

Garth loves photography, his only joy, but now you have damaged his brain you've taken that away from him, he can’t even remember yesterday. Are you happy Dr Katz, you have stomped on and crushed the life, hopes and dreams of an innocent man and his family?

Dr Katz you say Garth is not competent enough to refuse the electric shock treatment. But you say he .....is competent enough to agree to being tied up for more than sixty days. This argument is as credible as the Tooth Fairy.

There seems to be no viable hospital protocol or established boundaries for reducing cruelty like other medical fields.

The global Psychiatric Associations are in panic mode and urgently need another junket, a cash cow to be crude, with a new ocean of money streaming into their deep pockets to replace the present one before the money runs out.

So they have decided to resurrect the failed 1980's Electric Shock Treatment, hoping it will shock the brain to wellness. The theory of Fairy Dust has also been discredited by science.

Did you know, Dr Katz, the brain is a finely tuned and sensitive organ and that’s why it has a bony structure to protect it from shock. .....E.C.T. is like shaking up a sick canary in a cage, hoping it will get better. The parallel is the canary will become disoriented and most likely die, in the same way as a human who is violently shaken up with electric shocks to the brain.

.....But viewed from the eyes of a research psychiatrist, when the canary stops moving it will be deemed to be no longer agitated, and well.

In the 1970’ Electric Shock Treatment was ceased because it caused brain damage, psychological damage from the fear and torture effect and brain trauma. Psychiatrists used it as punishment towards patients who protested. It failed then, and it’s failing now.

It’s the same worldwide, especially in the USA, New Zealand and Australia. Other countries have been harder to penetrate.

Military personnel and veterans, especially the USA and Australian army have often been in the forefront of experimentation. A significant number died, and their families would not know. Deaths are shrouded in secrecy, worldwide. Courts insist on suppression orders.

So, what of Garth Daniels future held in your hands Dr Katz, if he has one? It’s looking bleak as time is fast running out for him. It's up to you now Dr Katz to do the right thing. How many pieces of silver in exchange for a life?

LETTER TO DOCTOR PAUL KATZ (PSYCHIATRIST ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR)

JE SUIS GARTH

19/4/2016
Letter to Dr Paul Katz,

Assoc. Professor,
Upton House, Box Hill Hospital,
Mental Health,

Dear Doctor Katz, (A light hearted chat)

I’ve been thinking about you since our last conversation Dr Katz, and I had some more interesting thoughts for you. I know you wait from my advice. It won’t cost you anything.
I realize you are very busy Dr Katz, and still hunkered down in Box Hill Hospital, not taking phone calls and emails.

I’m worried about you Dr Katz, you need to get out more. Both you and Garth Daniels are at risk of deteriorating mental health if you both don’t socialize more. The only problem with Garth is you’ll have to untie his hands and feet first.

And just arrange a day for the two of you, where he isn’t confused from the zapping of electric shock treatments. Easy! Maybe you two can get in the car, then drive down to the nearest pool and do a few laps together. The beach is good too; imagine long walks on the sand, just you and Garth, sharing your problems. Then add a beautiful sunset and you’ll have the perfect day. See, I’ve got lots of good ideas.

Its six twenty five am. here, and the washing is nearly done, so we can talk for a bit longer. It’s ok, I’ve done the dishes, so I still have a few more minutes for you. See, I arrange my day early so I can catch up with my friends. I talk to them and take emails. Maybe you could take a leaf out of my book. Now close the computer, stretch back in your chair and relax. Visualize what you are going to do with your day.

You could also imagine what Garth Daniels is planning for his day too. You have a long relationship going back a while, so it would be sad if you didn’t plan to catch up soon. His dad Bernard would appreciate a call when you’ve got the time.

I know psychiatry is a drag sometimes, so maybe you and Garth and Bernard can get together and talk about the things you have in common. Garth’s feeling a bit down right now since he can’t see his dad and brother anymore; maybe you can cheer him up. Garth, his dad and brother are very close, you know, so it’s had a big bad impact on his recovery, not being able to see them. Go talk to him about it, he needs the contact, he’s lonely I guess, just like you.

But wait, incidentally, Garth wants no more pills, on top of the already pills please…..no more extra pills especially if you think he has depression from the treatment. Who wouldn’t have depression? His liver will thank you for the consideration. ….Take it from me, he doesn’t want more pills, or injections.  Enough!

It’s a neat field you reside in Dr Katz, where there are self-perpetuating treatments.

I went to a car repairer like that once. When I took the car to have the muffler replaced, always about a couple of weeks later, there would be an oil leak, then a few weeks later, a radiator leak, then a few weeks later a tyre puncture. The problems stopped when I changed repairers. Garth needs to do that too. He has another psychiatrist lined up. It’s time to give someone else a shot a treating him, since you and your mates have driven this thing into the ground.

You realize any admission to hospital is a huge failure, you know Dr Katz. More than three months is a disaster. You need to think more laterally. You’ve had him in hospital for over twelve months: What’s wrong? Its time you caught up with your books about psychiatry again and concentrated on your patients. There are short courses on line. I’ve heard about your dosing and phew! Who got it wrong? You need to sack someone on the floor. The credibility of psychiatry is going downhill fast at Box Hill Hospital and everywhere, and you’re not helping. It’s time to lift your game Dr Katz.

We need to start a....’ Save Psychiatry,’ campaign for you and your staff and bring people out on the streets. ……I won’t tell them what you’re doing, …I promise. They’ll never find out who did it from me. It will be alright.

You could put an ‘Amber Bird,’ and ‘Jonny Depp,’ heartfelt apology on line to plug the holes. ‘Pistol,’ and ‘Boo,’ got off scot free. Imagine what you can do for the image for psychiatry. You’ve got street creds
.
Now getting back to business - you could do with a better online presence Dr Katz. Your profile is looking a bit ragged. You need a catchy slogan: Wait for it, maybe….can’t think of one right now……ah! Got It!

‘Don’t be a mollusc, come here and get treated, you’ll be a completely different person when we’re finished’. It’s good, but you need to flesh it out.

I promised myself not to rave on too much this time, so I’ll have to wind this up. You can ring and tell me your troubles any time. I’ll listen. I wouldn’t want to be you, …because things are on the slide in a big way. You’re having trouble keeping track of the Garth Daniel’s and where he is right now. Nobody knows if he’s under the Eastern Health umbrella or Monash. Just keep a hold on where he is now, we don’t want him lost in the loose paperwork.

So have a nice day, Dr Katz, you are always in my dreams. - Not the best place to be right now. However, have a nice day Dr Katz, and we’ll talk again some time.

Sunday 17 April 2016

Letter to Dr Paul Katz, Psychiatrist and Associate Professor.

Je Suis Garth

18/4/25
Letter to Dr Katz,

Assoc. Professor,

Upton House, Box Hill Hospital,
Mental Health,

Dear Dr Katz,

Now I have some sage advice for you Doctor Katz, since you didn’t change your ways last time. I think I should give you a little bit of a motherly pep talk, or maybe some ‘Hard Chat.’ I know I make you uncomfortable; but the truth hurts, so don’t turn away again. Take your medicine: it’s good for you. Are you sitting down, are you paying attention? Right I’m ready to go….

So we are now on Chapter two of the Garth Daniels expose. The first chapter took twenty years of unremitting, shall we say, mismanagement at one end and what looks to me like torture and mistreatment of a defenseless patient at the other. Being a mentally ill patient makes him no less a human patient than the mainstream. He hasn’t ceased to exist as an individual like many in the mental health system.

So, just to recap for the readers……The story began when a normal boy did what a lot of normal boys do, that most unwisely, he smoked a bit of ‘Pot.’ Sadly the friends he hung out with at the time, more than likely spiked him with something heavier. As the fog receded, he developed a crippling headache. So with the best of intentions, Garth, still a normal boy went to the Emergency Department of, I hear, a major Melbourne hospital to get help with the headache.

Normal boys, girls, mothers, fathers, uncle aunts, grandparents and little children go there to  Emergency Departments all the time. The paradox is, when those people sit down on the padded vinyl chairs in E.D. they don't suspect what could lie ahead for one in five.

They are normal people doing what normal people do, but naïve and sometimes being misled by career doctors. They think they are in the safest place in the world to be sickest, and that would be a hospital. But that’s far from the truth.

I don’t want to overstate the next part of the story. It could take away from the punch line of the last tragic endings. The story unfolds....

You know about this story Dr Katz, don’t you? It probably flags you every day. That one in five of each family universally is deemed by the Psychiatric Associations to have a mental illness that's in need treatment.

Little do these people know what's in store for one of their family members, while quietly sitting behind the glass of the waiting room of a major hospital.  It’s tragically like Garth Daniel's experience some twenty years earlier.

Its import for psychiatry to keep these things low profile, so the universal strategy is that you don’t want to scare the horses before rounding them up. For it only takes one experimental pill slipped into the mouths of innocents, and they are trapped like rabbits in a cage, a feral cat or a runaway snake in a bag with nowhere to go. One wrong pill, and their loved one could be torn from the family and spirited away for a lifetime of cruelty in a psychiatric unit. You know Dr Katz, that antipsychotic medications given to a person with a normal brain causes psychosis and confusion. Is not in dispute.

I feel qualified to speak, because it happened to one of my family members too. Like Garth Daniels, after previously presenting with only a headache twenty years ago, the family find their loved one writhing, maybe sometimes hallucinating and strapped to a bed or from a bad reaction coming from the wrong antipsychotic pill. It can go on for days, months, even years of higher and higher doses, while not everyone has the enzymes to metabolize them. I have a family member who has been in those shoes, also for twenty odd years. A lot of psychological and physical damage was done on forced treatments.

Then to compensate, poorly trained psychiatrists increase the dose to fix it these people with catastrophic outcomes: with more doses that’s when the psychosis explodes in intensity. Both the family and patient are terrified by this and will have no say once an involuntary treatment order is written. They are written out with reckless abandon.

A nurse, a social worker can write these legal things. There is then plenty of unending severe trauma to go round. With the growing hurt the patient must be then sedated senseless till they adjust. If they resist, what else is there for management to do but run an electric current through the patients brain to subdue them. This is happening in real time in a real way in hospitals around the world. It's highly subdued. Retribution for speaking out is swift and savage. just look what's happening to Garth Daniels family for speaking out. From an active brain and a sharp hand on a camera Garth had a reasonable life with things to enjoy. Now with E.C.T treatment he has nothing, including his health. He is terrified his heart will fail or brain function collapse. It is a real possibility, because Dr Katz won't order it stopped.

There aren’t enough staff at Upton House or anywhere else in Victorian Mental Health I can see.  . You and I know along with the patients and families don’t we Dr Katz. Garth's family is kept away, as psychiatrists up the dose again trying to quell the psychosis, or sedate him, either or, but like putting salt on a wound, it continues to worsen. Then not uncommonly their loved one deteriorates suddenly to an early death, sometimes screaming ‘no more antipsychotics.’ or trying unsuccessfully to avoid the next electric shock treatment. I say the way things are  now, ‘Belsen,’ is looking attractive.

You know about the case of Garth Daniel’s and the family quest to free him from your grasp, but you hang on relentlessly, Dr Katz, determined to teach this fine united family that they should not cross you without there being retribution, or a rain of fire and brimstone upon them...... Do I have it right? The family wants to go to Queensland with his psychiatrist and Garth. You say no Dr Katz, when there are better alternatives, and not Clozapine because it will compromise his heart and other organs.

As I said earlier; you are the Grande Puppeteer:
You still pull the strings of this sad case, remotely, out of the way of prying eyes. You hope you will again be hidden from view, but you are in full view. But you can’t escape the glare of publicity and notoriety, because:

You Dr Katz must realize the family is entitled to oxygen too!

When the press got too hot, you slid Garth Daniels sideways into a locked facility at Dandenong Hospital, far away from prying eyes that are trained on you at Upton House, Box Hill. Have you noticed this keeps following you, because how ever it ends, this is ….your legacy.

It’s the kind of press that dogs a person for a lifetime.  Yes, its Garth Daniels case that won't go away. Why did you suddenly move him we ask?..... but you never said. Garth is now under the umbrella of Monash Health. I assume it is your hope the public spotlight would fall away from you then, but it hasn’t Dr Katz, and it won’t.

So, after this unending and devastating storm,  the family now finds Garth twenty years later, residing in a locked psychiatric Unit, in a major hospital, anywhere and everywhere according to your whim Dr Katz, still tortured with electric shocks to the body, sometimes on alternate days…

It's Joseph Mengles -style with unsolicited electric shocks any time. You say Garth has no capacity to refuse, but when a nurse manhandled him and he pushed her away you charged him with assault. ….Any reasonable human being would take that as a …..No!..... No electric shock treatment!

One of Adolph Hitler’s legal psychiatrist Joseph Mengles, acted lawfully too when he sewed the twins together without anesthetic drugs. I understand anesthetic treatment is compromised with Garth too along with the brain shocks. This has some irony in itself considering your family roots. Back then, Jewish children were also considered inferior beings like the mentally ill today, who are  not deserving of respect and love, empathy and compassion, or the right to draw breath and justice.

Is this latest confinement also where you are heading with this Dr Katz? Is it your zenith, your one greatest achievement. We'll see!

The hearing for assault against Garth is today at the Magistrates Court. You Dr Katz, have striped the family of their life savings over time in defense of their son, so they can’t afford a defense lawyer. Dad Bernard Daniels, sixty nine years old and frail from the fight, has to represent his son yet again, on limited and confusing information provided to him by your cohorts. You want to revoke guardianship away from Bernard, so Garth can be spirited away from public scrutiny as you continue to constantly squeeze him, compromise his life, both general and mental health.

Now it’s about….ninety electric shocks and growing you’ve ordered for him, when the normal upper limit is usually ......twenty compromising still his memory, spirit and good health. You set this off Dr Katz and now you will have to wear it.

Both you and Joseph Mengles (World War 2) have traits in common. Both were operating within the law at the times of cruel treatments inflicted on the defenseless and lost. I see the obvious flaws in both of you. Neither of you can feel empathy with their fellow man.

Since Garth has been restrained by both wrist and ankle in a bed for sixty days until now…..wouldn’t a reasonable man or woman snap under that duress and want to push back from those conditions, knowing the electric shocks are frying his brain and he clearly says No! which is his right and he is ignored. Knowing this, Dr Katz is pushing you hard, till you nearly break.

Even our genetic cousins, the apes, would go mad and try to defend themselves if they were in Garth’s shoes. A person who in the face of unremitting danger and who feels powerless for long enough, will react. Everyone has their breaking point. Who could reasonably stay quiet under those conditions…..so why not Garth? It shows he is one of us.

Your thinking that Garth’s not of sound mind, as you claim, and not competent you should have been aware there could be an unrestrained reaction from Garth and worked around it. But assault? Dr Katz you need to plan ahead.

What’s the difference between Garth’s case and the restraint of an ape in a six foot by three foot cage where it can’t move about and it’s drugged and poked with a stick, tranquilized; and assaulted by enforcement that causes pain? ….The answer is ….very little.

That cage would be about the size of Garth's bed where he is strapped down unable to move for sixty days on end, with both hands and feet tied. If Garth were a primate in these conditions there would be international condemnation and charges laid against the handlers. In this case it’s the nurses who have to do the dirty work.at your bidding.

Garth is in a worse situation than the ape mentioned above, and the caged honey caged bear kept in Russia. There is not much daylight between those two examples. Even the most mildly mannered primates or humans in time will try to defend themselves under constant unremitting threat.

So when an intelligent human being like Garth predictably reacts under deplorable and degrading conditions, he is charged with assault by your team? How about the right number of staff for the right job?. Garth has a basic right to the same as everyone else, but I don’t see evidence he can get that under your hawkish glare.

Garth Daniels should have the same basic human rights as anyone else, and that is the right to defend his self from assault or harm. But he doesn’t.

So, who is really the aggressor here?  The legislation is clearly swayed in the wrong direction, against the patient.

It’s evidenced that nurses at Eastern Health are not adequately trained to deal with or predict the actions of overly sedated patients when they flail around. Sometimes a limb will collide with a human being, often the abuser. This time it was a nurse, it seems, but stories have a way of changing when the service is applying to overwhelm Garth’s father in the rush to seize guardianship of Garth. Constant dripping water wears away a stone, they say. There are no independent witnesses to protect Garth against defamation. Anything else could have occurred in the alleged assault.

The basic rule for any carer or nurse is to stand back and not manhandle the patient. Let the person have some space. What can a nurse do when asked to go over and bodily force the patient to submit to tyranny?  ……If she wants to hold her job she must be complicit and toe the line.

For this alas, is a sorry story, To nearly approximately quote poor Yorick.  (William Shakespeare) ‘I see something stinks in the state of Denmark or say Victoria.’

Don’t you understand Dr Katz, ……..No means No! ....No more electric shocks for Garth. If it happened this time how many others have you hold up and scattered somewhere else? I shudder to think.  ....When will the dark ages end?

The bright light of justice is shining brightly on Garth from all angles, and can''t be extinguished. The bed Garth is in; is still funded by your Eastern Health. It’s just in a different location, so your reign and responsibility Dr Katz as we know it is still on Garth and still Eastern Health, along with several other tentacles that penetrate the Monash domain and other areas. Oh, you are the agile one Dr Katz, aren’t you? Why don't you tell Bernard the truth so he can have a fair hearing for his son at the magistrates court. .

Marine biology experimentation in an earlier career Dr Katz was your forte. I think you should stick to what you do best, beside the sea.

Letter to Dr Paul Katz, Psychiatrist and Associate Professor.

JE SUIS GARTH!

Dear Dr Katz,

When the heat was on, you snapped into action. You have the makings of a future C.E.O.

Maybe you do have aspirations for the top job at Box Hill Hospital. I note your online presence is fading fast though, a rare move for a man on the move. With such an illustrious career such as yours, you should be flaunting you association with the American Psychiatric Association, and your other achievements.

Did you know Members of the Psychiatric Association are pushing to join the F.D.A. panel that approves psychiatric drugs, straddling between the interests of drug companies and themselves? Like any good business model, the association would have one eye on the stakeholders and one eye on the benefits to psychiatrist members. Consumers; where they fit in? It’s the question without an answer.

Now the USA Psychiatric Association is pushing the F.D.A. for electric shock treatment for children. What foresight!.....I had a great thought to help….. Why not install a treatment room in every school, and train up a teach to press the button that says...Zap! Whenever the students won’t cooperate, teachers could send them off to the Zap room, like they are treated at Box Hill Hospital. We must have sympathy for the frayed nerves of those hard working teachers.
They deserve a break. The school could even provide the same service for teachers who can't cope with unruly children. There could be another recovery for next door to the children. They could get one of the children to pop in and see if they are alright. If any of them are slumped over they should tell reception.

There’s no need for the supervision of a neurologist in the hospitals with this treatment. If a scarcely trained psychiatrist with next to nil neurology or electronics training can do it, why not train teachers to zap their students on their break. Especially, this would be brilliant for kids who don’t see eye to eye with the teacher. It should also work on the kids who cry too much in hospital. Then you could cut nursing staff, and save money for the stakeholders…..The possibilities are endless. ….. I think I should be your consultant. I've got lots of good ideas like this.

Just between you and me the little ones will learn their lesson fast …to not mess with teachers. They’ll sit quietly in the corner for weeks. Maybe schools can have a dedicated recovery room with dark curtains so the other students don’t know what’s coming for them. We don’t want to scare them too early, do we Dr Katz?

E,C.T. early is good training for their future adult life in mental institutions, after electric shock treatment as children. Look what happened with Ritalin treatment for hyperactive children, lauded at the time by a noisy band of psychiatrists. How did their predictions of success pan out. Drug companies and psychiatrists made a killing. Now those kids are adults, they're filling the jails and mental institution at a mighty rate. You must say, that is very neat…. E.C.T. treatment that is self-perpetuating; and lucrative beyond your wildest dreams. It's much better for psychiatrists than pills, and most of it going into the pockets of psychiatrists. ...Teachers can do a deal at half price. Wow! ….The American Psychiatric Association will love you for your promotion..

The possibility of brain damage... what do you think? …. Well, treatment sometimes has its side effects, but it may not show up for twenty years when people like you are retired. If you need any more tips, just give me a call.

You are the unofficial Guru of Electric Shock Treatment at Box Hill Hospital. We see that. No doubt you are still following the Garth Daniels case; you oversaw under your care,......until things started going wrong.

When everything began to tank, you quickly moved him to someone else’s patch; a guy in charge at Dandenong Hospital called Andrew Cidoni. Poor Andrew, what did he ever do to deserve this? He’s not handling the treatment well either. Your treatment to reduce depression has created it. The family sees it, his friends too. But this is not the disability field, although Garth has a disability. ……Magically in Victoria, a disabled person who develops a mental illness drops off the radar. ….. They become invisible.

You set Garth Daniels Electric Shock Treatment off and running. Garth Daniel’s brain is degrading fast, one shock at a time. Ninety eight treatments and counting. The family is told there are only a few more. Is that true Dr Katz, or are staff stringing Garth along? His previously sunny disposition is turning to despair. Neither his family nor Garth knows what to expect. next

You, Dr Katz. you  took Garth and incarcerated him in a bed, restrained and terrified by the wrists, scarring him, he was assaulted along the way, breaking his arm. All this restraint was for the convenience of staff, for sixty nine days while you experimented on him. There is a protocol for experimentation on patients, you know. You banned his family from seeing him so they wouldn't know. They are still banned from Dandenong Hospital too. Can you expand your attention to understand why they are prepared to take desperate measures?  If Garth didn’t have depression and be scarred by trauma before, he would have them now. While not having enough staff to supervise, Electric shock Treatment works as a great sedater. I wonder what you did with the other guy in the scuffle Dr Katz. It makes me shiver. ……Maybe its better I don’t know.

When you think about it, this is the perfect therapy. While treating one problem, it creates a further string of problems that need ECT treatment to fix them - for ever. - There is no mandated upper limit on shocks - This would be paradise for Frankinstein, the man who created his monster.

There is one problem I see though; Australian cities are running out of cemetery plots…. I don’t know what we can do Paul. You know, with all those children coming up now the future for cemetery planners is bleak.  I’ve got it ……..we can find out where veterinaries dispose of dead cats and dogs and maybe get a cheap deal. You can send all of them out of town in bulk lots.

Then, you can have a batch of condolence cards made up for the families of the deceased, telling them they will have to go way out east to find the funeral pyre of their loved one. They can get directions from reception. There is a box of tissues on the desk, the first one is free.

Did you know you are one of a most privileged class? If you were in the disability field and did what you do to patients, you would be strung up by the scrotum.  ……..But we forget, this is mental health.

Mental Health Minister Foley doesn’t care, so why would you? It's open slather. I know it. I nearly forgot; you must consider the stake holders first if you want to make it in this race. Consumers are a distraction.

This experiment is still your baby Dr Katz; it seems it will be your legacy for all time. I’m happy to let you know how it’s going, with regular updates if you like. With your cosying up to the American Psychiatric association, that is pushing the F.D.A. to promote electric shock treatment for people with mental illness, including children, the stake holders should make a killing in dollars for hospitals and psychiatrists.

Up to $1,000 for three seconds work, by anyone’s standards that’s good pay.

So, there you have it Dr Katz; I’ve tied up all your problems for you.
While we are at it, please give my regards to Dr Cidoni at Dandenong Hospital. I feel sorry for the poor man. What did he ever do to you to inherit your problems?

Tell all this to Garth Daniels when you see him next time. Both of you will have a lot to talk about, won't you. You are going to visit him at Dandenong hospital aren’t you?  Don’t forget to take roses, they should cheer him up no end.
